FAQ

Common questions and migration expectations.

Can I install Zidom from npm?#

Yes. All ten beta packages are reported published under @zidomjs/* at 0.1.0-beta.2. Start with the installation guide. Use exact prerelease versions rather than relying on npm's default tag.

Is Zidom production-ready?#

Not production-certified. The maintainer's Beta.2 Chromium/Firefox/WebKit checks passed, but compiler/build/server features remain experimental and independent accessibility, security and production-use reviews are still outstanding. Read release status.

Is Zidom based on React?#

No. Its reactive engine and direct DOM renderer are independent. TSX looks familiar, but jsxImportSource points at @zidomjs/dom and the rendering model is different.

Does {count.value} update automatically?#

Without the tracked compiler, no: a plain .value JSX expression is a setup-time snapshot. Use {count} for a signal child or {() => count.value} for explicit reactivity. The optional compiler understands some locally declared signal reads.

Can I use routing, forms and data fetching?#

Yes. First-party packages provide a browser router, typed flat-field forms, an isolated query cache, shared stores and typed dependency injection. See the interactive examples.

Is Zidom faster or smaller than React, Vue or Preact?#

Zidom publishes a 4,360-byte gzip core + DOM public-API bundle from the October 31, 2026 Beta.2 release, but this is not an application bundle or a direct competitor comparison. Its fine-grained binding model is designed to avoid unnecessary DOM work. We do not yet have a defensible full-application ranking. Read performance and measurements for scope, methodology and the existing keyed-list browser benchmark.

Does the website itself use Zidom?#

Yes. Search, theme controls, code-copy buttons and live feature demos are Zidom components. The website currently pins Beta.1, while new applications can install the published Beta.2 packages. Documentation is pre-generated as HTML so pages remain indexable without JavaScript.

Why the name Zidom?#

It combines Zi, from the creator's son Zidane, and DOM, the Document Object Model. Read our story.
